I must say, bunion, that You have put in a lot of effort regarding C-compilers and other stuff. I take my imaginary hat off for You, and I think it goes for the rest of this community. Keep on truckin' Regards robban

here the result of my first test, very same sources, compiler and link settings. compiler 9.65PL1: Program: 1225 words (59.8%) Data: 77 words (60.2%) compiler 9.70PL0: Program: 1179 words (57.6%) Data: 76 words (59.4%) My program works as expected and, as an additional bonus, with 9.70 I can remove my workaround for "(s)printf-in-files-different-from-the-one-with-main()" bug DrS

I don't know where You reside, maybe on desolation row, come on, let's have a gas, it's almost New Year, and we can all celebrate. Soon it will be a new year and then we will all get back to normal(whatever that will be).Cheers from robban...

Guys, I am having hard luck installing PICC. First, I could not use v9.65 because my Symantec is saying that universal patcher has trojan. Now I tried to install v9.70. I am not seeing the application in the menu after installation. When I start the installation, the flash screen does not say it is PRO version. I hope it is fine. Step 1 in Readme1st.txt says: INSTALL OFFLINE as PRO USING XXXXX. The selection screen says PRO/STD. So I do not know how to choose only PRO mode. I did this (I masked the serial number in the screenshot. I used the number from Readme1st.txt), Hope the above is correct. In the next to next screen, the default installation path is shown as, Note that the path does not contain "PRO" or "STD". It simply contains "PICC/9.70" In the next screen I selected the "Add to enc path" box. The files are copied by the installer. Then the last screen comes, where " Email Now" button is shown. I click on the " Finish" button. So far I have not applied the patch. This is clean " offline" installation. When I try to start the application, I do not see the application in the menu. I thought that since the application has not been activated, it is not showing up in the start menu. Then I ran the patcher and chose the files (mentioned in the readme1st.txt) using the browse button. It reported success (23 bytes written for each file). Then I double clicked on the file mentioned in readme1st.txt. This also returned success. But I still do not see the application in the start menu. Now if I click on the "Activate or trial PRO mode", the following screen appears. Note that the serial number is different than what I entered. This serial number appears in registry. What did I do wrong?

Dear picaboo, Yes its obvious that you will not see any application listing/icon in menu becuse this is a command line compiler...you should first learn how to use command line tools or use some Integrated Development Enviornment(IDE) like Mplab IDE from microchip or Hitechs own HI-TIDE IDE...these IDEs will act as graphical interface for your hitech c compiler...as u have already mentioned that patch returned success message then your compiler is ready to use and its fully functional now, hope this all helps.

Also you can set up Flowcode to use HI-TECH compiler instead BOOST C compiler bundled with it.

Pickit, that was exactly my point. Your screenshot show the word "PRO" for v9.60. But my screenshot does not show that, though bunion's .rar file is named PICC PRO v9.70.

Alien,
Thanks a lot. I am used to MicroElectronika which has its own IDE. I was expecting PICC to be same. After reading your post I did some more reading online and now I think i understand how to do it with MPLAB. I will try this today.

I think you are useing Hi-tech first time. You will never see any application after installing Hi tech compiler. Hi-tech compiler is always linked with MPLAB. If you not like MPLAB then install HTIDE.

Theres no passes on any of the latest stuff so u must be using an older pacl like hitech enterprise pack..if so the passwords are all covered in this topic so take some time and look thru posts or use common sense and guess its either sonsivri , Sonsivri , Sonsivri.com or bunion
