This is a historical day for the PICKit2 programmer.
It is now possible to program AVR microcontrollers with PICKit2 without hardware/firmware modifications.

I love both PIC and AVR. Isnt that nice to have a single programmer?

Ohh.. one last thing.. there is some kind of restriction clause or something like that in the pk2 license agreement, but i dont agree Smiley

I've created a page to explain how it works.

http://pickit2avrisp.wordpress.com/

http://pickit2.isgreat.org

The project is in alpha stage. It was tested only with ATMega8, more test will be made when I'll get some more AVRs.

Pretty cool.  I have programmers for both already, but I'll bet there are a lot of people who will benefit from this.

Hi Kcsoft. That is a cool finding. Can it be applied to 8051? say 89S51

Excellent idea. By the way will it work with pickit2 clones?

No. AVRISP doesnt support 89S.

Sure. Some clones tend to simplify the PICKit2 by removing some of its features like the "Programmer-To-Go" leaving out some components from the original design, but PICKit2AVRISP doesnt need that.

I updated the page, uploaded version 0.2. As I said, the project is in "work in progress" stage.

http://hotfile.com/dl/27968310/e99692f/PK2AVRISPfull.zip.html

I also tested with ATtiny2313 and it works fine. Should work with all AVRs supported by AVRISP.

The said file is found in 5  different servers as links given on this page. Still if you have problem, that may be due to your Internet security software blocking acess, or cookies settings..Cross check...Any ways you may try downloading from this link.

Tried today..Link of "Mediafire" at Reply # No7 by KCsoft works fine. You may download the files from it. All links except this one are dead and the website not available.
