I am afraid I have not done a single smd board, but I have started a smd version of the GTP-USB Plus as a starting attempt, it is now really time to switch over. All my electronic buddies say once you've made your first smt board, then you will never use through-hole-pin components again. Also remember we here in Africa are a little (actually more than a little) behind technology. So you are allowed to have a little chuckle about my reply.

But to try and answer your question, use the mirror function (Edit - Mirror or the Mirror button just below Move on the LH toolbar). As soon as you then click on a smd part then the connection pins will turn blue and the part will mirror, meaning that the part is now on the bottom layer. Hope I have it right, let me know if it worked in your design. Please do not ask me how to make parts in Eagle, I have not tried that, in fact I am no expert with the program at all, only been using it for the past 3 months for small designs.

Thank's I've used it before but couldn't remember how to do it because i haven't made a double sided board in months .It will definately help my design switching some parts over to the other side.

Yes, not for plus.

I just build the GTP-USB board base on your attachment, and program the hex code into 18F2550 with JDM2 Programmer.

I plug the 18F2550 into GTP-USB board & run winpic800 and select gtp-usb lite (with USB connection) and also select gtp-usb plus (with usb connection) but DOESN'T work.

It just cannot detect the hardware.

Is it (your attachment) is proven working ?

Any help / any suggestion .... appreciated very much.

Did you use my Eagle layout (Post #10) to make your PC Board. I made two of these boards without any problems, but I ordered the pre-programed 18F2550 from Sisco. I am not sure if this layout works with the hex code 8051 posted.

SakCyb,

Thks for reply.Actually, I built one board using your circuit(v 1.3) and program the 18F2550 with hex from 8051.Result not detect???

I'm also built one board using 8051 attachment but also not working(but my laptop  detected it and request driver & install drivers succesfully). It do not  program/detect any PIC chip Sad

I'm not buying 18F2550 from Sisco as I have some blank 18F2550 (free sample from microchip Cheesy).

If you succesfull built it (USB board with blank 18F2550) and using the hex from 8051, hopefully you will share the info with us,would you?

In winpic800, what the settings you use? if possible can you make a snapshoot of the setting and post it here or in rapidshare?

Thks for info

I might still build the lite ver. just for love of tinkering Smiley I just can't spend $50 on a chip especially when I already have 6 blank ones sittng here.

bbarney,

Any success with lite version? Would you share the info/guide/experiences  on how to build it?

I'm using laptop(DELL Inspiron 6400) without any serial port.I succesfull built JDM2 Programmer (and using it on my friend Desktop PC)  but it not work with my laptop(using USB to serial converter) Sad.

So any suggestion/guides to built pure USB programmer ?

thks for any info/guides.

Funny you should ask

I put it on the back burner because i had to order a few part's for it and I was waiting to have enough other stuff to make ordering worth my while, but i just ordered the parts today so it will be a few days before i can say anything about it.made the board already so i just gotta wait for parts

If I go to a electronic shop I will get a blank PIC18F2550, program the Hex form 8051 in and swap the PIC from Sisco with this one and see if I get it to work, but please do not expect this to happen tomorrow, but I will do it. Is that ok?

bbarney,

1.  I tried SakCyb v1.3 with hex (from 8051) ... it'not work & also not detected by WinXp  home edition.

2. I built board (using hex & sch from 8051) .... detected by winxp home & installed the driver succesfully but cannot program/dont detect pic.

3. I built board (using gtp lite sch(got from net) & hex (by 8051)) .... detected by winxp home but cannot program/dont detect any pic.

But the sch in no 3 almost similar with sakcyb v1.3 ...  hmmm dont know what happen:confused:

If you make the board with either using sakcyb 1.3 or from 8051, hopefully  you can share the info with us.

I succesfull program 18F4550  (so far) because I just install 40 socket(28 pin socket not yet).

I'm using schematic from this site (I combine the schematic of programmer with 28 pin & 40 pin socket):
http://www.hobbypic.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=34

Using hex from 8051 attachment.

Using winpic800 ver3.55b from here:
http://ali3nworld.googlepages.com/download

with setting as attached.

So, please experiement it yourself ... Cheesy

Hope this is one you are looking for. The PC Board has a GND copper pour, so remember to hit the Ratsnest button once it's open in Eagle. Smiley
