Just starting this as was suggested in another topic.

PCB File with Inverted F antenna on Mechanical 1 in an Altium PCB file.

EDIT: Link to the app note that started this

From that reference, the TI layouts for the above posting of the inverted F antenna, in Gerber and DXF formats are here

Has anyone designed/tested a GSM pcb trace antenna? Any "quick and dirty" advice or links?

I just assembled a pcb with a inverted F antenna for the CC430 series by Texas, will get back to you with some range test results... Just followed the application note by Texas

Thanks!

Remember that the inverted F has to be away from other objects like another ground plane or human body.  I designed a small one like this using HFSS at 920 MHz and the difference between being in free space or next to a human body simulator was about -20dB (gain went from -7dBi to -27dBi).  Mine was about 25 mm x 7 mm so was electrically smaller.  I also added ~.3-2pF trim capacitors at the open circuit end of the F to ground, and in series with the feedpoint.  When we actually built it, it worked about as simulated.

How did you simulate it? I have seen that CST has this functionality, but never tried it...

I used Google and then HFSS13, none of the links here helped.  Looked again but now cannot find working link.   Try links in this thread:

Will send you file for antenna if you want it (300kB), let me know,

Please post it on a filehost and point to it in this thread with a text attachment so the lurkers can't have it.

Sending it via PM is not open sharing with our members, not to mention against the rules.

oops forgot about that, don't want to rattle Marlon Brando.
Attaching file containing link, I hope it works, never did this before.
When you open the hfss file you will see radiation surface sphere but look inside it for small circuit board on top of dielectric.  Antenna is on circuit board.
