Because, as Larry the Cable Guy will say - "Only in America ... the date format is such so the month is at the front and you can have 3.14.15"

Also here in Italy "corriere della sera" reported this special day:

March 14th is PI day everyyear, but just one year every 100 is such a special day where you can get the first figures of PI in the date and time:
3.14.15 @ 9:26:53
Amongst all, they say that just in America they celebrated by eating pies, since PI and pie almost pronounces in the same way
So I wish you had a good PI day, whatever you have eaten
