Ping Tester

Has anyone seen a Ping Tester?
or help me design one?
I image a small project box, with an ethernet jack
a small LCD display and a keypad.
The main mode would be the user enters the IP of the device with the display and keypad.
then hooks it up to the cable. This would allow someone remote to ping check to the device.
another mode that would be nice, is after the IP is set and the device is hooked up..
the user can enter another ip, that the device would then send a ping to.. testing the other direction.
Thoughts?
I know this is done with just a laptop.. but I'm looking for something smaller and simple to use.

If you are familiar with AVR, you can use some open source ethernet project do it, such as ethersex,AVRnet, and other .
PING use ICMP protocol, so if you only need PING fuction, you can reduce many code space..lol
