why not using freeRtos from www.freertos.org it's free and have an example showing it's usage. and i have used it in several of my projects.

Also you can use Micrium RTOS. It can be downloaded from www.micrium.com
the ports files for the AVR are available too.

If it's the small AVR's you micht want to have a look at FemtoOS

This is a nice little RTOS for AVR's
