So I put off buying a laptop bat for over 3 years.
Finally the frequent power cuts in my country drove me to buy a bat.
The vendor said 100% original Lenovo bat.
Tested before ship. Free returns.

The bat did not work. i.e. when I plugged it in and disconnected the power it worked as in it suppled power to the laptop.
But when I hooked up the power it refused to charge.

When I contacted the vendor for a return he asked me to bring in my laptop.
He tested the pins on the back of my laptop and said there is no voltage output so its a laptop issue.

I was not able to convince him that the reason it was not charging is because the laptop bat was not returning a serial number. The serial number was just a series of zeros.

If memory serves me right when the W520 came out you could only buy and use Lenovo Wifi cards. Any other brand it would fail.
Somebody modded the bios to enable any card. And bypass the check on the wifi card.

Would it be possible to do the same for the battery check. ?
Any idea where I can find these old hacked Bios.

Yes I have seen the youtube videos where guys have tried to solved this problem and its not simple.
Since we have so many great hackers on this forum was wondering if they could provide me with any insights.

Or even just point me in the direction of an aftermarket bat vendor whose batteries will work.

To buy them from Lenovo is just absurd pricing its more than 10x the price. I could buy a new laptop for what they want for a 9cell bat for this laptop.
Ps: Another option would be to hack the bat firmware and write a legit Lenovo Serial number to it.

I can point you elsewhere, where you might find something if you search.

https://forums.mydigitallife.net

They have a section on BIOS modding. It was helpful when I needed to remove a whitelist on HP laptops, and insert SLIC tables onto NICs for hardware activating Windows Server on Dell servers (that felt so good, lol).

They do have a request thread where you can ask for a BIOS to be modded, but the person who did the requests is from Ukraine and unfortunately has not been online for some time (hope he is safe!). You might find something already modded and posted though. There are also links to tools that you can use to do the job yourself, which are what I used to mod mine.
