Hans Camenzind, the analog guru who invented one of the most successful circuits in electronics history, the famous 555 and introduced the concept of phase-locked loop to IC design, passed away in his sleep at the age of 78 on August 15, 2012. He designed the first integrated class D amplifier, he also wrote a great introductory book on analog chip design called "Desigining Analog Chips".

His analog circuits "bible" can be downloaded form his website at:

Thanks to Hans Camenzind for his great contributions.

I have used a few of his chips..
I earn my first fee for electronics design using the humble 555.

I guess a lot of the analog gurus are reaching end-of-life. We lost Bob Pease last year (June 2011) as he was returning from Jim Williams' funeral. Jim Williams was a founder and principle at Linear Technology.

His 78 year monostable flip-flop went low.  I wish we could re-trigger it.

555 timer attracted me to electronics and since then I have been addicted to electronics generally.
What a great inventor... RIP

Not as long as Sonsivri is alive and kicking

:-)

So the big question arises - were any of these old-fart greats, ones whose last names were on the circuits we studied in school, members here? (don't answer that please, mods - the mystery is better left unanswered).

I think the 555 was the way in the world of electronics for a lot of us.
It is probably the most know electronic device in the world along with the BC547, the 1n4148 and the 7805   Cheesy

Hans Camenzind as is own place in history. The body gave up, but the soul remains.

Rest in peace.

I sold many flashers based on 555! and many of them are still working up to this moment, all of them were built on a small piece of veroboard and dipped in varnish : )

At the age of 78 he was an old timer, but we will remember him.

When I first saw flip-flop effect on the red led in the board that I created with my own hands, I got obsessed with electronics. This is my 555 story from my childhood.

I'm a noob to electronics really compared to most of the people on here. I use pics, atmels etc but still love making 555 circuits Smiley
