OK, request is off, I found me another engine. Ended up with a
Stuart No 1. I'll put up a thread when I get around to actually building it, I've ordered the castings but I'm not going to do the machining myself (my employer has an advanced CNC workshop) so I guess it'll take some time (busy schedule). HP output is about 0.5HP (~372W), I hope to find an efficient permanent magnet alternator suitable for direct drive (perhaps
one of these), and if I get something like 75% efficiency (guesstimate, too optimistic?), I should get about 280W electrical (since I'm an EE guy I'll put in synchronous rectification with MOSFETs to avoid diode drop). I'm hoping to add an electrical starter as well, running the alternator as a motor. Boiler will probably be a
VFT-2, but initially I'll just use pressurized air for testing.
