16 Buttons Keypad

Hello. As if anyone knows, if there is a Keypad like that in link below, but it has luminously buttons. That keypad i want to use in a pic. Thanks.

hello, check the keypad at http://e-gizmo.com/, they have one cool 4 x 4 flat keypad, cost only $2 if i not mistaken...

You will have to pay a very big price for a lighted keypad I'am afraid
Thats why I showed you the sparkfun keys as they are the cheapeast lighted keys I've seen anywhere  here's a link to a lighted keypad and check the price

is a sticker type, and some beneath is transparent, so you can simply modify it into backlighted keypad by adding led
by your prefered color below ( sticking it into transparent plastic like acrilyc, can enhanced the backlight ). this one is
if your budget cautious, because original lighted one is way too pricey, like bbarney said...

Hey guys!

I'm on a project where I have a pad with 10x10 buttons. Each one should be illuminated by a RG(Y)-LED.
At the internet there are lots of projects with caps out of soft rubber or silicone for covering the buttons which gives a very nice effect with LED's.
I've searched a long time but I didn't find any tutorial or description how to make those. So if anyone knows anything about this, please tell me.

Below is an example picture from a SparkFun project which has similar buttons (i think).

I hope anyone can help me and/or has made such things by himself.

Perhaps this would be a good place for Microchip's Charge Time Measurement Unit
CTMU PDF and its ability to easily use capacitive touch buttons.  I got to play with
the CapTouch technology on a recent job, and it works wonderfully, including through
1/8" thick Lexan or glass.

A good discussion of the concepts is HERE.

Circuit board could have a RGB LED mounted through a hole from the back side of
the PCB, a protective transparent or translucent poly panel could have the "buttons"
painted onto it, etc. ...

On the fancy side, the pads for the "buttons" could be formed on glass using Indium
Tin Oxide, a transparent conductor.

Atmel Touch was Quantum touch and i have used its single key touch ic QT100. I had no problems with it.

How do they make those silicone rubber button pads from SparkFun ?
Is there any tutorial around here or the net, which describes how to make them
and especially which materials are used ?

Make a mold, pour the silicone, let it harden.

Thanks for the video link, I found it just half an hour before.

Sounds very easy. I'll have a look at the hardware store tomorrow.
Can I make the mold out of some hard plastic or pour it with epoxy
resin? Or will the silicone stick on these materials ?

Mold release will be necessary for most materials.

I found some applicable silicon rubber on the hardware store. It's white, has a soft surface and translucent.
I made a test mold out of some LEGO and mixed the silicone with the hardener, but with 7% instead of 4%
because of the viscosity. With this mixture it will become harder and cure much faster.

Well the first test went well and I'll try to make a first test button tomorrow.
