hi

i am new to micro-controllers and i am  using flash magic for 89v51rd2

flash magic not working  the error message is

I don't know if this will work for sure but you can give it a try.
Options -> Advanced Options -> Under Hardware Config tab uncheck Use DTR to control RST

Keep the Reset button on your target board pressed. Then ISP -> Read Device Signature and immediately release the Reset button. If Flashmagic reads the device signature properly, then communication is fine.

You can use same procedure for programming.

are you sure that the board is in ISP mode  ?
I do not know 89v51rd2, but in the series lpc23xx  it must hold P2.10 to gnd during reset

What is the frequency of the crystal?

Are you using Auto-ISP?

Can you upload circuit diagram?
