does anyone of you know something concerning automobile electronics? i.e. books/tutorials/circuits?

Hi,
In all new cars you will find a connector to interface the car's "brain" to a PC. This connector called OBD-2. To start with this look at this page: http://www.pinout.net/browse.php?conid=298
Also try google and Elektor projects for OBD-2.
