How to unbond ferrite cores?!

For any designer how wants to make their on ferrite trafos, is quite hard to find out some new ferrite cores on small quantitis. But, by the other hand, is quite easy to scrap an ATX power supply or even an small switched AC-DC converter, from cell phone and those gadgets...

But the ferrite core is always bonded.

First, wicht kind of glue do they use to bond the ferrite core?!
 
Is there any kind of method to unassembly they without damage the ferrite core? I mean, no mechanical stress, this always damage the ferrite core.

Maybe heating or founding and easy and efficient solvento for the glue?

A friend told me about to throw the trafo in a tank of isopropanol alcohol and keep by few days, I don't realy care about lost the wire, just want to diassembly!!!

Does anyone knows how to do this?

put the ferrite (bonded) for a half an hour in paint remover, then clean carefully, and with small forces by your hands you can detach the two pieces of ferrite core

Why not use the workshop way to do it, and use acetone. or your wife's / Girl friend's nail varnish remover.

Hi all,
It is difficult to unbond the ferrite core by using  paint remover etc. The easiest way is as follows:
Remove the wire if you require it or cut it off and then put the core with bobbin inside a pot with hot water heated to boiling point. Keep the core inside for sometime and then remove it from the pot and unbond the core into 2 parts by applying light pressure. Don't forget to use hand gloves before touching the hot core. In this way I have unbond nearly 100 sets of Ferrite Core with zero wastage. Hope, this process will be useful to you also.

Dear tAhm1D !

I'm honest when I say that I was not very trustful about put on the trafo on a cup of boiling water and make it works...
But i've talked with a friend that studys materials engineering and he said that usualy, glues dont support very high temperatures.
Well, how chineses stuffs usually have very bad quality, I tought, may be the glue they use are also low quality..

So I put on some water to boil and when it was boiling, I threw the trafo on wait for 3 minutes...

It was very very very easy to disassembly the trafo!

Almost unbeliveable!

I am happy that you could do according my suggestion. Actually this process is the practical one as tested by me and now by you also. Hope,this process will be useful for others also who require to unbond the Ferrite Core for further use.
