How much simply. Just one Tsop series IR decoder three pins device and outside the data pin connect digital multimeter and working or not working IR remote control device. İs this enough.

Which type of infrared?
- Heat using PIR module
- Remote Controller IR use IR decoder, IR Phototransistor or IR photodiode

I use a digital camera to detect IR remotes are at lest pulsing.

if you open your digital camera and
remove the LOW PASS IR filter (blue glass like thing in front of the CCD) on it,
then replace it with a High PASS 980nm filter,
you could SEE THROUGH Synthetic material !!!!!
Just dont use them near a public swimming pool - you may get killed
